Object Relations Theory and Practice
(CORE) 2 years
Our primary training program focusing on the foundations of the object relations approach. This program is also called our CORE program as it is the basis for many of our other advanced training programs. Offered every year.
Applicants will submit:

This program references and discusses clinical material. Therefore, we can only accept applicants who meet the following requirements:

- have an active caseload (currently practicing)
- a letter of reference from a current or former supervisor, employer, instructor or similar person who can vouch for your ethical character
- hold a license or be working towards a license that is appropriate for the level of education completed

Object Relations Applications are reviewed starting early in the year (January-April) to form the class that begins each June.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program
(PPP) 2-3 years
Clinical Track Application – this track includes a supervision/consultation component.
Our Advanced Training program for those interested in practicing psychodynamic psychotherapy with adult individuals. Offered every year.
Applicants will submit:

- Two years of personal psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program recruits on a rolling basis each semester. Applicants between December 1st and August 1st will be considered for the fall start date in September. Applicants from August 1st to December 1st will be considered for the spring start date in January.
Psychoanalytic Couple Therapy
3-4 years
Our Advanced Training program for those interested in practicing psychodynamic or psychoanalytic psychotherapy with couples and families. Offered every year.
This program includes a supervision/consultation component.

Psychoanalytic Couple Therapy Program recruits on a rolling basis each semester. Applicants between December 1st and August 1st will be considered for the fall start date in September. Applicants from August 1st to December 1st will be considered for the spring start date in January.
Infant Observation
1-3 years
This program is intended for mental health practitioners who are interested in ways early child development, primary relationships, and primitive anxieties and defenses can inform clinical technique with children and adults later in life. Offered every year.
It is particularly useful for those interested in an analytic training program and is a required training for IPI’s analytic training program either before or during analytic training.
This program includes a supervision/consultation component.

- current treatment or to have been in treatment in the past with a psychodynamic/ psychoanalytic therapist or analyst.

Infant Observation applications are reviewed in June or July in preparation for the start in September of each year.
Psychoanalytic Training Program
(IIPT) 4 or more years
Our psychoanalytic training program that fosters analytic competency primarily with adults. Offered approximately every 4 years.
This program includes a supervision/consultation component.
Applicants will submit:

- 2 letters of recommendation from supervisors, senior colleagues familiar with your clinical work (one from an IPI/IIPT faculty member, if possible)
Applicants must have

- a background in Object Relations Theory and Practice (from the IPI or an equivalent program)
- a background in psychodynamic or psychotherapeutic therapy (from the IPI or an equivalent program)
- a license to practice independently in the region where the patient resides
- 1 year of Infant Observation (can be completed during Analytic Program enrollment)
Applications are typically open from January to April before the next planned class. Program starts in June. Often, an introduction to analysis seminar is offered leading into the application process.
Child Combined Program
2 or more years
Our advanced training program for adult analysts and advanced child psychotherapists who wish to learn child analysis, and for child and adult psychotherapists who wish to deepen their work with children. Offered approximately every 2 years.
This program includes a supervision/consultation component.

- 1 year of Infant Observation (can be completed during Child Combined Program enrollment)
Applications are typically open before the next planned class (approximately every 2 years). Program starts in summer.
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Consultation Program
1 year
Our advanced training program for Supervisors/Consultants. Offered every other yer.
This program requires participants to be providing supervision or consultation to others.

Applicants must have

- be currently providing supervision to at least 1 supervisee
Applications are open June – August every other year. Program starts in October.
