Weekend Overview

Chris Kraft, PhD will join us for this weekend of ethics and diversity focused on gathering psychoanalytic/ psychodynamic understandings of sexual development, sexual orientations, gender identity and gender variations.

Using clinical case examples, we will consider the shifting tides of sexual identities and orientations, and the underlying psychoanalytic theories that inform the development of gender identity and subsequent sexual orientation. Taking into account the complex transference and countertransference responses to non-conforming gender behaviors, in both the patient and the therapist, we will navigate the complex space between conceptualizing sexuality and sexual disorders. We will attempt to outline the ethical parameters of a gender affirming psychotherapy practice.

The conference will include lectures, case presentations, large and small group discussions.
